I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

Encouragement, Life Behind My Lens, Word of the week

DO NOTHING | WORD OF THE WEEK | SACHEL SAMONE | LOVE & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

This past week and weekend was SUPER BUSY. Each day brought a different session, time spent with colleagues in the industry, meeting with potential clients and somewhere in between it all, I managed to run a 5K.

Once the noise from life begin to quiet itself, you know what I did?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I took those quiet moments to simply REST.

You ever notice while driving on road trips, after a certain distance you begin to see rest area signs? It’s as if we’re being reminded that we need to take a break. Just like those road trips, throughout life, I’ve learned that after a certain distance, I HAVE to rest.

Anyone who knows me knows I can’t seem to stay still. I am always on the go; traveling somewhere, headed out the door to some meeting or event, or whatever. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been a busy bee. Waking up early and going to bed late was a way of life for me. When I was little, I used to hate naptime…Now, you all have NO idea how much I LOVE taking naps!!

As I’ve gotten older, I have learned the value of rest.

I have learned that in order for me to be functional and in order for me to give the very best of me to others, that I have to rest. If I keep running around and doing everything, eventually I am going be low on energy and not be in the right frame of mind to do anything. I used to be afraid that if I rested, that I would miss out on something…that some big opportunity would pass me by. Now? Now, not so much. I know that what God has for me is for me and I mean, let’s be honest: EVEN THE LORD TOOK A DAY TO REST.  I mean goodness! If the Lord can take a day, who I am not to?

When I rest, I like to do different things. Sometimes, I just lay down and listen to music, other times, I sit and watch NCIS or The Cosby Show all day (because I really can’t get enough of Gibbs…or Heathcliff). But one thing I do each time I rest is simply unplug from the world and spend time with God. Whether it’s through prayer and meditation, journaling to Him or simply reading His word, unplugging from the chaos from the world and giving even more of my time to Him, resting with Him has become so necessary to my life.

Too many times we’re always on the go. We’re living life at 1,000 miles per hour that we burn ourselves out WAY too easily. It’s time to take our foot off the gas, slow it down and spend a few moments at the rest area.

As you throughout this week, take some time to recharge your body, rejuvenate your spirit and renew your mind.

However you deem it necessary, just remember: There is power in rest.

Have a great week lovelies. 🙂
