I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here! Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed. Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.
This beautiful lady recently celebrated her 82nd birthday and I feel like to say I’m grateful for Ms. Viola is SUCH an understatement!
It’s amazing the people God will bring into your life. When you’re exactly where you need to be and the right people are in your life, there’s a beautiful kind of magic that happens. Before moving to Alaska, I had no idea who she was or that she even existed. But when I finally did meet her, I learned not only did she know who I was, but she knew my family! Her and my grandmother were friends and her daughter and my mother grew up together!! How crazy is that!?!
As I was preparing for Ms. Viola’s session, I have to admit, I was SUPER nervous! To date, she was my oldest client…in fact, she still is! But all I wanted was for her to be comfortable and for her to enjoy a day of being pampered. I wanted to make sure I captured her spirit and when she saw her images…she saw her true self. But as we begin shooting, all that nervousness just melted away. We talked about EVERYTHING from her time as a drum major to her grandchildren…from lessons she’s learned in life to the things she wishes young people of the world knew today. Little did I know that by the time we were finished, we had been shooting and talking for almost 3 hours!
My relationship with Ms. Viola has been such a beautiful surprise for me. I never expected to have so much in common with a then-81-year-old lady, but since our session, Ms. Viola has become such a dear friend to me. Each time I talk to her, we laugh so much! Before I left Alaska, I would go sit with her on Sundays to just talk and soak up her wisdom and every time I sat with her, I would always leave feeling refreshed! Seriously, this woman is SUCH A TREASURE!
I’m thoroughly convinced there’s something INCREDIBLY special about seasoned women. The amazing stories they have, the lessons life have taught them…as a young woman, the more time I spend with them, the more I can’t help but feel like I become a better version of me. Ms. Viola’s spirit is just as a beautiful as her wrinkles…just as bright as her eyes. I am seriously obsessed with her.
