I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

2016: Let's Do This, Encouragement, Faith, Life Behind My Lens

WALKING IN YOUR PURPOSE | LIFE BEHIND MY LENS

Lately, the word purpose

has been popping into my head and I’ve really been thinking about what it means to walk in our OWN purpose. There are times where we as human beings, especially young adults, can get into the habit of comparing ourselves to others or dare I even say it, adopt someone else’s purpose as our own. We look at their success, copy it step by step and then when we’re not generating the success they are, we wonder why it’s not working and get frustrated. Judging our progress or success in life according to someone else’s purpose is failure from the start (speaking from experience here.) It doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing. It doesn’t matter how significant someone else’s purpose may seem. The truth is:

YOU HAVE A PURPOSE AND YOUR PURPOSE MATTERS.

Whether you’re an aspiring writer, a teacher…a dancer, a photographer or a scientist….a mother, a wife, a sister or a friend, who God created YOU to be can’t be duplicated and….isn’t that a great thing? Think about it…God…the Father in Heaven who created mountains, stars, water, wine and adorable little puppies thought the world needed one of you too. That’s right, YOU have something this world needs and that MATTERS.

I don’t claim to know everything, but I DO know that operating in your purpose, and not anyone else’s, is CRUCIAL to a life fulfilled. Something inside of me wakes up when I’m behind a camera. When I’m directing a portrait session or capturing a beautiful love story…I feel God breathing life into me.  It hasn’t always been this way for me (I talk about this ALOT on the blog), but I’m thankful for every twist, every turn, every moment of comparison that has led me to this discovery of purpose. Everything about what I’m doing is working towards my purpose and it is my prayer that anyone reading this believes that:

WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW, IN THIS MOMENT, IS WORKING TOWARDS YOUR PURPOSE.

Sometimes, it can be hard. You may see someone doing exactly what you want to do in life and wonder why it’s not happening for you. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You don’t know what struggles they went through to get to where they are and regardless of what their struggles were…their journey is not your journey. Their success is not your failure and their purpose is not your purpose. Learning to trust in His plans and learning to walk in your own purpose is all you will ever need to be great.

So when you’re feeling down or feeling like you’re just all-around failing at life, put your hand over your heart. You feel that? You feel that heartbeat? That my dear is purpose. YOUR purpose. May it always remind you that no matter how messed up you may think you are, there will always be someone that loves you, someone who needs you and someone who thinks that YOU are amazing. 🙂
