Life Behind My Lens, personal, Sachel Samone

November 16, 2016

Over the past few years, ALOT has changed. I’ve become a wife, a soon-to-be mother and have moved my business from Virginia to Alaska to Florida. As we move around and I meet new people, making new friends, it’s important for you to get to know me as I grow and evolve as a woman and a photographer.

So, in this blog post, I want to share a few things you may not know about me. If you’re up for it, answer one of the questions in the comment section below so I can get to know a little bit about you too!

1.How do you start your day?

Before I do anything, I open my eyes and say “Thank You Lord.” In addition to that, I always say a prayer. Like many people, I used to be obsessed with reaching for my phone and immediately starting to scroll around, but over time, I learned God is  a jealous God and by reaching for my phone first thing in the morning showed what was most important in my heart. Now, I choose to turn on some praise and worship music (I’m loving Anthony Brown and group therapy right now!) and choose to start my day off with God instead of anything else.

2.What’s your favorite beauty secret?

Sleep. Especially now. As Baby Harris grows inside of me, all I want to do is SLEEP. Oh…and Jack Black Lip Balm. I never leave home without it. 🙂

3. What’s your favorite outfit for a quick, polished look?

A maxi dress. It’s simple, easy and most of all, I don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what top to pair with a bottom. Not to mention, it’s perfect for this beautiful Florida weather.

4. How do you balance all of your work responsibilities along with your home life?

To be honest, I’m still trying to figure this one out. While I do try to stick to a schedule, sometimes, things don’t go according to plan. But with me about to become a mom, if you’ve mastered the art of balancing home and business, I’d love to hear what’s working for you!

5. What’s in your purse?

Ummmmm, not much really: a pack of kleenex, my pocket knife, hand sanitizer and travel-size lysol spray, a book, my wallet, some treats for Teddy, a pen and some snacks.

6. Why photography?

Well, growing up, I actually wanted to be a journalist. I was going to be the next Oprah Winfrey and no one could tell me anything different. So I studied broadcast news in undergrad and digital media in grad school. After school, I took a job as a GS-employee with the U.S. Air Force and there I worked under an amazing photographer who took me under his wing and I fell in LOVE with photography. It challenges me and stretches me creatively. So while journalism taught me how to document life, photography teaches me how to see life and with the two of those things constantly inspiring me, with photography bringing such joy into my life and me truly believing this is part of God’s plan for me to serve others…why NOT photography?

7. Coffee or Tea?

Tea definitely. When I was little, someone told me that coffee stunts your growth and with me already being fun-sized anyway, I didn’t want to take my chances. So I never developed a taste for it and I’m perfectly okay with that.

8. What’s your favorite app (or other tool) for helping you do life?

My journal. There’s something about carrying around a physical journal that calms me and keeps me focused.

9. What do you love most about being pregnant?

Honestly, feeling him kick inside of me. I’m not gonna lie, when it first happened, it shocked the heck out of me and felt PRETTY DARN WEIRD, but as he grows and becomes more active, feeling him inside of me is not only my favorite thing about being pregnant, but it’s also changed my perspective on life as a whole. I feel so empowered and beautiful carrying him inside of me!

10. Where’s your happy place?

Anywhere my family is. Cheesy I know, but it’s true. I don’t care if it’s on a beach or on the couch, anywhere my husband is is my happy place. Though this girl TOTALLY digs living close to the beach. 😉

So what about you? Answer one of the questions below in the comment section and let’s get to know each other!
