I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

VISITING HOMER, ALASKA | PART 1

I recently visited Homer, Alaska and when I say it was AMAZING!?!? It. was. AHHHHMAZING. So amazing, I’m not sure it will all fit into one post! It all started with Groupon. That’s right…Groupon.

For those who don’t know, I’m addicted to traveling.  I  love getting out, exploring and seeing as much of this magical place God created for us. Living in Alaska, I quickly learned there is so much here to explore and see. From the Northern lights, to the moose and bears…from fishing in the Kenai to traveling to Santa’s workshop in the North Pole, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to be bored here! So while on Groupon one day, I happen to stumble across a deal for a two-night stay in Homer, Alaska. Without even thinking about it, I cleared it with Ethan and bought the Groupon. Ethan wasn’t able to make the trip, but I’ve never been to Homer and it was only a five hour drive from Anchorage, so…. why not!?!

Known as the “Halibut Fishing Capital of Alaska,” Homer is such a darling town! Surrounded by mountains and beaches,  it’s got the best of both worlds! So whether you’re a beach lover/beach bum like me or someone who loves the mountains…also like me, this town is definitely for you! It’s DEFINITELY not the type of Alaska most people think about. When I originally told my family and friends I was moving to Alaska, they pictured Ethan and I up to our eyeballs in snow, living in igloos and surrounded by penguins. While that hasn’t been the case, I have to say when I was in Homer, I quickly forgot I was in Alaska. I may have known I wasn’t living in an igloo, but I certainly didn’t imagine myself walking a boardwalk during the day, walking the beach at sunset and photographing eagles!! Yea…I still can’t believe that happened!

Oh and did I mention the food?!? Oh MY GOSH, the food was among the BEST I ever had! One of the reasons I love small beach towns like Homer, Alaska is because everything is grown locally! Everything tastes fresher and believe me Homer did not disappoint! I fell in love with the  Thai omlette and Thai salad at Maura’s Cafe (also known as my new favorite place to eat on Earth!), the Salmon burgers at Fat Olives, the grilled halibut and coconut rice at Two Sisters Bakery, the breakfast at Duncan House Diner…I can’t wait to go back just to eat! Seriously, my stomach was on cloud nine!!

Now this is only part one of my trip to Homer because I don’t have enough time to tell you about EVERYTHING today! For now, you’ll have to enjoy this post of day one and I promise, I’ll share more in depth what Homer has to offer later this week!
