I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

Trust the One Who is Able.

Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of justice, equality, and service, we also witness a pivotal moment in our nation’s history: the inauguration of a new president. For a lot of us, today is giving a mix of emotions—hope, uncertainty, joy, or even fear. While some may be incredibly excited for what’s to come, others just feel…heavy. You may be wondering what the next four years will bring or wrestling with concerns about the future. Maybe you’re holding your breath, carrying the weight of hope—or hesitation.

Whatever you’re feeling today, I want to remind you of this simple and unchanging truth: God is in control. His sovereignty doesn’t waver with election results, political parties, or our very basic human plans. He is a good, good Father, who is steadfast, unchanging, and fully aware of what lies ahead. When the world feels unpredictable, we can find peace in knowing that God’s plans for us are good, even when we can’t see the full picture. Proverbs 21:1 tells us, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will.” Rest in this truth—nothing and no one is beyond God’s authority.

Growing up in Atlanta, Dr. King’s legacy wasn’t just something I read about in history books—it was woven into the very fabric of my life. From field trips to his childhood home and attending services at Ebenezer Baptist Church to conversations with members of the King family, he wasn’t a distant historical figure. To my family, he was a local hero whose vision of justice and equality boldly went beyond our city limits and transformed our world. As I reflect on the profound impact of both his and Coretta Scott King’s legacies, I can’t help but feel a sense of peace—even in the midst of today’s very real chaos.

One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King says this: “Only God is able. It is faith in Him that we must re-discover in this modern world. With this faith, we can transform bleak and desolate valleys into sun-lit paths of joy, and bring new light into the dark chambers of pessimism.”

Maybe today you feel anxious because you can’t see what’s ahead—you feel like we’re going backwards…headed for bleak and desolate valleys filled with shadows of doubt and worry. If that’s you friend, I’m gonna gently hold your hand while I say this: it’s absolutely okay to feel uncertain about what’s ahead—your feelings are 100% real and 100% valid. However comma, don’t let your feelings keep you from the truth: God’s plans for you are good. And like Dr. King, I want to remind you that our faith is not in the things we see or understand. It is in the One who holds all things together…the One who is forever able.

Isaiah 9:6 assures us that the government rests on His shoulders. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. His sovereignty does not waver, no matter who is in office or how uncertain life may feel.

So as we honor Dr. King’s dream today and everyday, let’s also not forget who’s really in control. And let’s not just remember who’s in control, let’s actively rest in the safety of His arms.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the reminder God, that You are able. Thank you Lord for not just being with us in the beginning and the end, but also in the middle. Father God on this day, as the United States enters into a new chapter, I specifically lift up everyone who is scared Jesus. God we don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t know how our lives are going to be impacted, but You do. And it is because of this, we surrender any fears, uncertainties, and questions about the future we may have to You. Only You Lord are able. Guide our leaders as only You can, fill us with Your peace and guide us daily as we seek to honor You in our words, actions, and lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember friend, our circumstances may change, our leaders may shift, but God’s presence is our constant. So, take a deep breath, friend, and remember: God’s got this. And God’s got us.
