I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

A Mother's Love, Dear 2025, Motherhood

The Soundtrack of Motherhood

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE music. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries on some of my favorite artists. Artists like Luther Vandross, Tina Turner…Dionne Warwick, and Otis Redding. Their stories have made me fall in love with their music all over again because now it feels even more personal. I often say, “When my words fail, my music speaks.” And isn’t that the beauty of life too? Each season comes with its own soundtrack.

Recently, I attended an event at my son’s school where he had to give his first speech. As I watched him stand in front of a room full of people, confidently sharing his thoughts, I was overcome with pride—and awe. How did we get here? It feels like just yesterday, I was cradling him in my arms, nursing him to sleep. Now, he’s standing tall, finding his voice, and shining in ways I never could have imagined.

As a photographer, I take a lot of pictures of my son. My home is filled with portraits of him and me—beautiful moments frozen in time. Recently, as I flipped through an old photo album, I was transported back to those precious moments. It reminded me just how quickly time moves. One day, I’ll blink, and he’ll be graduating high school (dear Lord sweet Baby Jesus and the grown one too. I am NOT ready.)

If your life had a soundtrack, what would it be right now? A soft lullaby as you rock your baby to sleep? A high-energy anthem as you chase a toddler? A soulful ballad as you guide your teen? Or maybe a reflective jazz tune as you watch your grown child step into their own life?

Seasons change, and so does the music. But one thing remains the same—YOU are ALWAYS part of the song. Through every tempo shift, God is conducting your symphony, weaving a melody of love, grace, and unwavering presence.

So what does it look like to truly embrace the soundtrack of each season? Here are a few ways to stay present in the music of your motherhood:

🎵 For the sleepless nights with a newborn – Remember, this is a tender lullaby season. Instead of longing for more sleep, soak in the quiet moments. Whisper prayers over your baby. Let worship music play softly in the background as you rock them to sleep, knowing God is rocking you too.

🎶 For the chaotic toddler years – This is your high-energy anthem. It’s loud, fast, and unpredictable. Lean into the joy. Dance in the living room. Laugh at the mess. Capture the moments that feel overwhelming now but will be precious memories later.

🎼 For the school-age milestones – This is your song of discovery. Show up. Cheer loudly at their events. Be their safe place. And when you feel time slipping through your fingers, take a breath and remind yourself—you are still their steady harmony.

🎹 For the teenage years and beyond – This is a soulful ballad, full of depth and emotion. There will be late nights waiting, deep conversations, and moments when they pull away. But don’t stop playing your melody of love, encouragement, and faith. They still hear it, even when they don’t say it. I’m not an expert in this season yet—my child is still young—but I the stories I hear from more seasoned moms, help me remember what it felt like to be a teenager. I know how much my mother’s unwavering love, prayers, and presence carried me through, even when I didn’t always acknowledge it. So to the moms in this stage, know that your melody still matters.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” So embrace the rhythm of today, knowing that no matter how the song changes, your love and presence will always be a familiar harmony in your child’s life.

So, Mama, what song are you singing today? Whatever it is—sing it loud. Dance to it. And know that No matter the season…no matter the song God is right there with you, orchestrating your masterpiece. YOU. GOT. THIS. 💛
