I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

Being Still in the Unexpected

I heard the rustling through the window. I saw the little icon on my screen. And even when I walked to my back door and looked out the window, I STILL couldn’t believe my eyes. It was snowing….IN FLORIDA.

"Greetings from Florida" drawn in the snow.

Even writing that feels almost mythical—like the kind of story you hear and think, “Snow? In the Sunshine State? Ain’t NO way that’s true.” But there it was, undeniable and awe-inspiring: snowflakes dancing through the air, creating my very own winter wonderland in my backyard. This definitely wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025, but it’s a moment I’ll never forget…one of those moments that just makes me pause, and ask myself, “If snow can fall in Florida, what else is possible?

Watching this extraordinary phenomenon unfold, my heart filled to the brim with childlike wonder. I mean, let’s be real: no matter how old you are, you’re NEVER too old to make snow angels, build a snowman, or sled like no one’s watching. But in the midst of all the plans I begin to make for the perfect winter adventure, my mind drifted to Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” In a world that’s constantly moving, constantly pushing us to do more and be more, this rare snowfall reminded me of the beauty of stillness—and the power of God’s ability to do the impossible.

If I’m completely honest, I have a love-hate relationship with Psalm 46:10. While I love delving into the word of God, whenever He drops this particular verse in my spirit, I know it’s because I’m doing everything but being still. I’m scattered in every direction, my mind is in overdrive, and my spirit feels completely drained. It’s His way of saying, “Come to me so I can give you rest.”

Think about it: how often do we rush through life, missing the quiet moments where God is whispering, “I’ve got this?” How often do we show up in our prayer time doing waaaaay too much talking and not enough listening? Being still isn’t just a call to stop moving. It’s an invitation to crawl into the lap of our Father and just…exhale.

I know you’re carrying alot. Trust me, I am too. But that’s exactly why God desires for us to be still: so we can hand over our burdens and rest in His sovereignty. God doesn’t need for us to control everything. He needs for us to trust that He’s at work in all things—even when we don’t see it, even when we don’t feel it.

So as I quieted my spirit and walked through my backyard, watching Teddy play in the snow and relive his Alaskan glory days, I realized this rare Florida snowfall is a lot like life sometimes. You know…it’s the thing you thought could never happen… just like the answer to a prayer you gave up on after waiting so long for a reply…or the dream you tucked away in your heart because you felt it was just too far-fetched. And isn’t that exactly where God shows up and does His best work?

The Bible is full of moments where God defies expectations:

  • He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites.
  • He allowed fire to fall from heaven.
  • He fed thousands with just a few loaves and fish.
  • He raised people from the dead.

And just like those miraculous moments, snow in Florida shows us God’s power is limitless. He can do the unimaginable anywhere, anytime…in your life and mine.

So, what can we learn from this unexpected gift of snow?

  1. Pause and Be Still – When life feels chaotic or overwhelming, take a moment to stop. Look for God in the details, in the unexpected, and in the quiet.
  2. Trust in God’s Timing – Snow doesn’t come to Florida often, but when it does, it’s unforgettable. God’s timing may not align with ours, but it’s always perfect.
  3. Believe in the Impossible – If God can make it snow in Florida, He can make a way in your wilderness, bring life to your dry places, and fulfill promises that seem out of reach.

Eventually, I know this too will pass…the snow will melt and our temps will once again be hotter than Satan’s baby toe. But for now, I’m going to enjoy the moment—this moment where God is gently reminding me to be still and trust Him, even when everything around me feels uncertain.

So today, whether you’re like me…standing in awe of pretty little snowflakes in Florida or waiting for God to move in your life, I encourage you to take a moment today to pause. Be still. Put the to-do-list away and slow down. Make room in your world for Him to take your breath away. And as you marvel at what He’s done, let it stir your faith for what He’s yet to do.

Because if it can snow in Florida, just imagine what God can do for you.
