I've been keeping journals since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm so glad to share some of my most intimate life moments with you here!  Here, you'll find inspirational and encouraging stories of me and other broken people like me. We are all jars of clay who have been afflicted in every way, but not crushed...struck down by not destroyed.  Here, you do NOT have the right to remain silent, so as you read, grab your favorite snack and drink and leave a comment...share YOUR story. I can't wait to connect with you in this beautiful safe space.

welcome to my

journal!

DEAR J’AIDEN: YOU’RE 8 MONTHS!

Dear J’Aiden,

A little more than a week ago, you turned 8 months!! EIGHT. MONTHS.

I keep thinking that as I say it over and over that it’ll sink in, but…nope. I still can’t believe it. I have an 8-month-old. Seriously little dude, WHERE IS TIME GOING?!?

I honestly feel like this past month was a blur. I mean…half the time I didn’t know what day it was. But in the midst of the days blending together, being present with you and watching your grow leaps and bounds this month was nothing short of remarkable.

When you get older, I hope you enjoy reading these letters as much as I am enjoying writing them. So my dear J’Aiden, here’s 8 things I want you to know about this past month:

1.You LOOOOOVE sweet potatoes!! Sweet potatoes have always been a staple on our grocery list, but now it seems we can’t KEEP them in the house! But between you and me, I don’t mind. I love seeing how excited you get when you realize what’s on your spoon. You tried peas this month and hated it, oatmeal with bananas and loved it, but nothing compares to your love for sweet potatoes. ☺️

2.Our breastfeeding game is still going strong! And I’m loving every minute of it! If I’m honest, I wasn’t prepared for how much work it was going to be, but I feel like breastfeeding makes our bond stronger. Sometimes you grip my nipples so tight it makes me scream, and trust me, plugged milk ducts are NO fun, but I’m really proud that we’ve made it this far. My goal is for us to make it a full year, so let’s keep this party going shall we?

3.You love bath time…but hate having your diaper changed. Seriously, it’s the strangest thing. Whenever we go to change you, you will squirm, turn and flip your body around. What is up with that?! ????????

4.You love to FaceTime and talk on the phone with family. You are so in love with seeing yourself on the camera and J’Aiden, it’s the cutest thing. I’m 1000% convinced that our moms and sisters only call us to talk to you, but it’s cool. The way you squeal and talk whenever you hear grandma, one of your Aunts, baby Nylah or Zuri..it’s absolutely hilarious.

5. You love taking walks outside. And feeding the baby ducks that come to the backyard. I absolutely love that you love being outdoors! It totally speaks to my adventurous soul!

6.I’m learning the beauty of being present. Sooooo…your mom? TOOOOTAL busybody! It’s always been really hard for me to stay still, let alone have a completely clear mind. I often describe my brain as a web browser with a million tabs open at once, so sometimes it’s really hard for me to truly be present. But you little man are forcing me to slow down. As you enter the “I want to touch and put everything in my mouth” phase, you’re forcing my brain to slow down and completely be present with you. Slowing down feels so unnatural to me, but truth be told, I’m enjoying it. Sure, I have my Dory moments and lose my train of thought and yes sometimes I get frustrated with myself because I don’t cross off everything on my to-do-list, but being present with you reminds me to give myself a lot of grace and focus on what’s most important.

7.You are a total mama’s boy. For right now anyway. If I put you down…even if it’s to go the bathroom, you will scream and cry as if you were being tortured! Even though you and daddy are forming your own special bond, you love being in my arms, which, as amazing as it is, makes tackling my to-do-list a little difficult. Not to mention it’s killing my lower back! Nevertheless, I can’t lie…it does make this mama feel extra special knowing that your heart belongs to me. So I’m definitely enjoying this moment in time.

and finally…and this is a big one…

8. You started pulling yourself up! And I totally wish you could see my face the first time you did it. ????????  I nearly fainted! I don’t know who told you to do it, but YOU DID IT! And the icing on the cake? Watching you smile at your own accomplishment. As proud of you as I am, I’m sooooooooooo not ready for what is coming next! Between the scooting and you turning your body around, I know it’s only a matter of time before you start walking and soon you will be unstoppable.

Nope…mama is NOT ready!

J’Aiden, you’re growing up so fast and you know, I’m not completely ready for it. I want you to stay my baby forever. But the reality is, you will grow up. But no matter how big you get, you will always be my baby.

Everyday you learn a new skill and conquer a new challenge. I have no idea how you’re going to amaze me in this 8th month, but I know one thing:

I am SO in awe of you.
